Bluefin Tuna
SPECIES SPOTLIGHT
Atlantic Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus), the titans of the open seas, are formidable marine giants that can reach lengths up to 3m and speeds over 70 km/h. These tunas, famous for their migratory journeys across the North Atlantic and Mediterranean, primarily feast on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Despite past overfishing that severely depleted their numbers, conservation efforts initiated in 2007 by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) have led to a significant recovery. This resurgence not only highlights the success of international conservation efforts but also underscores the resilience and adaptability of this iconic species.
